Did you like it? I was surprised at how beautiful the whole video turned out: there were no cut scenes, no animations, no splices. One single video take of Natalie Portman gracefully hand-signing the song and singing the lyrics… I found myself picking up certain signs too, like “My Valentine”, and hope you did too. This being Share Sunday , I’d appreciate it if you could let us all know how your friends took it.
I would’ve left it at that, but upon further research, I found the official version of the video on Paul McCartney’s youtube page that does feature Johnny Depp. Here it is:
Admittedly, I much preferred the first one. I love Johnny Depp: I think both him and Natalie Portman are not only great in their acting, but they’re very thoughtful, smart professionals who go beyond just doing what their told. In this case, Johnny Depp’s part in the video, the different camera angles, plus the camera shifting all around to focus on hand signs, movements… Just made it so much more unnecessary complicated from my point of view, and took away from the video, not added to it.
